What you'll see!

Found in Durham Region

Would you believe we have mink in Ajax? Yep, paddling up Duffins Creek and came across some mink not to mention beaver, deer, and so on…

Hiding but not hidden

Sometimes you just have to stop and look. The number of times I’ve found myself being watched by deer or other animals is amazing. I’m looking for them while they’re watching me, protected in the bush.

From the water

Many of the photos in this collection were captured while kayaking in Durham Region. Being on the water offers a unique perspective of how these animals live.

Local beauty

It’s so true you have to stop and smell the roses. We tend to forget that wildlife has no boundaries and for them our backyards are just part of the scenery.

A word from the Photographer

Toronto Photographer David Reid“WHO’S IN YOUR BACKYARD” is a collection of wildlife photos taken steps away from your backyard. The photographs in this exhibit are all captured locally within Durham Region. I’ve sought out locations where I can immerse myself in a way that captures a world seen by the subject and not often the observer. Finding these unique perspectives and stopping and freeing myself is when I can truly see nature around me.

When I enter their world I allow myself to be lead by my surroundings and let them direct me in. It’s often a dance between me and mother nature to find the balance, right time and place to capture the photo. When others go right I turn left to find the stories that are not commonly told. It’s an openness to the world around me that allows me to see a new one.

See where some of the photos were taken.
